BLUF: Campaign Against the Houthis

While the media discusses disclosures surrounding air strikes in Yemen, you may be wondering how the U.S. campaign against the Houthis is really going. The US military has been striking the terrorist group since mid-March, but the campaign hasn’t received much media coverage. The U.S. has launched hundreds of airstrikes, sometimes more than two dozen in a single day, in its efforts to eradicate the organization and remove threats from shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

While the U.S. military hasn’t suffered any human casualties, the Houthis are surprisingly good at shooting down drones, and are getting more accurate in targeting U.S. ships. Part of this success is owed to growing intelligence support from China, where satellite companies tied to the CCP are providing high-resolution imagery and information on positioning of U.S. troops and ship movements for accurate targeting measures. The new allegations highlight how the Houthis have been building ties with China to offset their dependence on a badly weakened Iran.

While the Houthis may be little more than a nuisance for the U.S. military, bilateral coordination of two major U.S. adversaries in aid of a terrorist organization to create issues for our military is cause for serious concern. So while the mainstream media may not be giving these strikes the airtime we at Steer would hope they would be, it doesn’t change the fact that going after this terrorist organization impacts a whole heck of a lot more than what one may assume at first glance.
